Module 2: Energy Efficiency for SMEs

ֆբհ

The next round of the local RECP Green Clubs in the Hrazdan city RECP team has launched on 29 of April, 2016. The participating organizations were engaged in production of bread/bakery products, shoe making /local shoe production/, chemical /chemical materials/ production, food processing/production, carpet production, auto remote services, etc.

RECP National Coordinator Ms. Nune Harutyunyan overviewed the previous session on Module 1 – ‘’Environmental Profile’’ and introduced the outline of Module 2 on ‘’Energy Efficiency’’, as well as she introduced RECP benefits for businesses in applying Energy Efficiency measures.

UNIDO National expert, Green Club Facilitator Dr. Dshkhuhi Sahakyan introduced Module 2 on ‘’Energy Efficiency’’ for businesses. Dr. Dshkhuhi Sahakyan presented the main points regarding the Module 2. She also pointed what concrete actions must be undertaken by SMEs to eliminate the energy use and reach higher energy efficiency standards. Energy efficiency has many privileges which were appropriately presented point by point to SMEs to make sure that they feel the importance of this issue, and will be willing to apply it in their business operations. The followings were presented in that context:

  • Energy efficiency (EE) saves considerable amounts of money in the business, decreasing the costs
  • EE is also good for the environment/energy resources saved/less pollution
  • More productive: Business companies can improve productivity, as well as bottom line, by taking advantage of energy efficiency in office buildings and production processes
  • More accessible: Residents of cities that employ smart growth technologies and transportation systems have an easier time of getting around – and getting consistent access to electricity.

SME representatives also shared with their business management experience. According to them they are more or less familiar with innovative energy efficiency solutions, mainly about LED lightening, but they are still not applying these innovations with a large scale to their business administrative buildings and areas, as they do not possess calculated data on energy saving for comparison and decision making.

So, it was added that, later on, by the help of RECP audits done by national experts the data will be calculated and recommendations will come out accordingly.

UNIDO National expert, RECP Communication and Outreach expert, Mr.Tigran Sekoyan has moderated discussion in the energy efficiency for SMEs, describing methods used for energy efficiency needs and identification of potential improvements, introducing new worksheet on energy efficiency and cost reduction for SMEs.

At the end of session Green Club Facilitator explained the next steps of Green Club, assignments for the next workshop and data collection on energy in the participant’s organizations.
